history
Established in 1888 as the Asylum and Training School for the Feeble Minded, this state school went through several name changes over the years. From 1912 to 1961 it was known as the Rosewood State Training School, in 1961 it was designated the Rosewood State Hospital. Finally in 1969 it was renamed to Rosewood Center, and that name has stuck ever since. Presently the hospital treats and rehabilitates mentally retarded patients. The campus is still partially active, with newer buildings spread around the campus across from the abandoned ones. The administration building unfortunately burned down in 2006 due to what was ruled to be arson.
On January 15, 2008 the state announced that Rosewood Center would completely close within 18 months.
